Nation observes 1st year memorial of late Meles Zenawi

Addis Ababa August 21/2013 The first year memorial of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi was observed at a national level at Gulele Botanical Center, Addis Ababa in the presence of his family, high level officials and leaders of African countries.

 Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said Meles played fundamental role for the development of the country. Meles’ contribution in the efforts of the government to lift the country out of poverty is significant, Hailemariam said. He said the late PM's work to build climate resilient green economy in Ethiopia is also exemplary to other countries. 


The Premier said the world will remember Meles for his relentless efforts to make Africa’s voice heard in the international arena. Meles Foundation Board Chairperson, Azeb Mesfin on her part said Meles sacrificed his life for the development of the country and benefit of the people of Ethiopia. She urged the public to continue the development activities Meles had started. 

Somalia President, Hassan Sheik Mohamed lauded Meles great role in the efforts to restore peace and constitutional order in Somalia. Djibouti President Ismail Omar Gele on his part said Meles’ role in the continental and global arena offered him international recognition. Representatives of nations, nationalities and peoples' of Ethiopia laid a corner stone for the construction of park and public library in memorial of the late Meles, during the occasion.
